"Distracted driving is an epidemic on America's roadways" said Ray LaHood, Secretary of Transportation, in his blog on Distraction.gov.  Claiming a 4x increase in accident probability and 16% of fatal crashes in 2009, cell phone use by drivers has attracted the attention of companies and lawmakers alike.  This is most recently manifest in the DOT's ban of cell phone use while driving a commercial vehicle, effective January 3, 2012.
